Your garage door is the largest moving part in your home, and ten minutes of maintenance twice a year keeps it running smooth. Here’s the short homeowner version of what our techs do.
Tighten the hardware
All that vibration loosens bolts over time. Snug up the brackets and roller hinges with a socket wrench. Don’t over-torque, just bring them firm.
Lubricate the moving parts
Use a garage-door-specific silicone or lithium lubricant on the rollers, hinges, springs, and bearings. Wipe the tracks clean rather than greasing them.
Test the balance
Pull the release and lift the door halfway by hand. It should hold roughly in place. If it slams down or flies up, the springs are out of balance. That’s a tech job, not a DIY one.
